About the Friends of Erlestoke Prison

The Friends of Erlestoke Prison helps to support offenders with the challenges of resettlement and rehabilitation. We fund projects which:

  • Help offenders face up to the impact of their crimes

  • Help offenders develop skills and behaviours which will help them to find employment

  • Bring fathers closer to their families, especially those with children

  • Improve prisoner health and well-being

  • Raise local awareness about the work of the prison

Our current initiatives include yoga classes, drama workshops, art classes, origami classes and our well-established transport scheme for prisoners' families and friends on visit days. We are also raising funds to build an all-weather sports pitch in the grounds of the prison.

Book a talk to learn about our work
We believe that developing understanding about prisons in the local community is important. We therefore give talks to local groups in Wiltshire about HMP Erlestoke and the work of the Friends. If you would like us to visit your group to provide such a talk, please contact us to learn more.

Coronavirus - impact on the Friends and our services

Visits and Transport Service
Social visit days at HMP Erlestoke are restarting on Monday 3rd August. We are now working to resume our Transport Scheme as soon as possible and will communicate a start date as soon as it is confirmed. If you would like to join us as a volunteer driver, please click here.

Our programmes within HMP Erlestoke
We ceased running our programmes (Art, Drama, Origami and Yoga) in the prison from week commencing 16th March 2020. In compliance with national directives to protect staff, prisoners and service providers, HMP Erlestoke has ended their normal regime. We will begin our programmes again when it is safe and we have authorisation to do so.

Robert Gordon Fundraising Event - "Shackleton and the Endurance"
Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions around large gatherings, we have cancelled the Robert Gordon talk at Sarum College, Salisbury previously scheduled for the 15th October 2020. This event will be rescheduled at a date in 2021 which we will announce later this year. Thank you for your patience and your continued support.
