About the Friends of Erlestoke Prison

The Friends of Erlestoke Prison helps to support offenders with the challenges of resettlement and rehabilitation. We fund projects which:

  • Prepare men for release

  • Help offenders face up to the impact of their crimes

  • Help offenders develop skills which will help them to find employment

  • Bring fathers closer to their families, especially those with children

  • Raise local awareness about the work of the prison

Our current initiatives include yoga classes, drama workshops, art therapy sessions, origami classes and our well-established transport scheme for prisoners' families and friends on visit days. We are also raising funds to build an all-weather sports pitch in the grounds of the prison.

New Trustee Appointment
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Primrose Campbell who has recently joined our trustee team. Primrose has had a varied career in politics, education and overseas charity/voluntary work. She is currently Head of Classics at Godolphin School in Salisbury. Primrose will be the lead trustee for new Friends of Erlestoke initiatives within the prison Education department.

Fundraising Events for 2019

cARTes Postales
In partnership with Salisbury Museum, we have launched a fundraising initiative called cARTes Postales (art on postcards). An array of leading and local artists, writers, actors and musicians, have generously agreed to create a unique artwork on a postcard. You have an amazing opportunity to purchase a voucher that will be matched randomly to a postcard – a creative lucky dip. You could find yourself the owner of a postcard created by Antony Gormley, Richard Deacon,
Sophie Ryder, Paul Kidby, Sir Tony Robinson, to name but a few. For more information and to purchase a voucher, please click here.

The second part of the fundraising will take place at a drinks reception and auction on the evening of 25 October at The Salisbury Museum. The auction will include works of art donated by well-known artists, who have kindly donated further works in addition to their postcard art. Please join us!

Please visit Instagram @cartespostaleswiltshire to see a selection of the beautiful postcards and all the latest news surrounding the campaign.

You can find more information about the cARTes Postales initiative in the Salisbury Museum press release here.

Jailbreak 2019
Sadly, due to unforeseen circumstances we have had to cancel our Jailbreak event this year. We hope that we will be able to launch the event on another date in the future.

For prisoners' families

We run a transport service on visit days, from Devizes bus stops and/or Westbury train station to HMP Erlestoke. To access this service please contact Sally-Anne on 07721 932430 with the date and time the lift is required, the number of persons and where you would like to be picked up. Or you can book via email:

We will then let you know if we have a driver available. Drivers are volunteers and will have envelopes in their vehicle for a voluntary donation towards your journey.

If you have a concern about an offender following your visit, please call the prison on the 'Safer Custody' phone number: 01380 814373

For all visitors

The portacabin outside the main gate of the prison is available for use by visitors on visit days. It provides somewhere warm and dry for visitors whilst they wait for access into the prison. There is also a toilet in the portacabin.

Erlestoke House Farm Shop

The Erlestoke House Farm Shop is open on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 12 - 3pm selling fresh produce, garden plants and flowers, furniture to order, free range eggs, handmade cards, jam, honey and freshly baked cakes. The shop also sells cards made by the prisoners during the Friends of Erlestoke Prison origami classes.

You can also order products online here.

There is an urgent need for a Shop Manager due to the relocation of the current manager. It is a voluntary post and serves a very worthwhile cause. If you are interested or for more information, please ring Janine on 07917691034.

Erlestoke House is a registered Community Interest Company.
