About the Friends of Erlestoke Prison

The Friends of Erlestoke Prison helps to support offenders with the challenges of resettlement and rehabilitation. We fund projects which:

  • Prepare men for release

  • Help offenders face up to the impact of their crimes

  • Help offenders develop skills which will help them to find employment

  • Bring fathers closer to their partners and children

  • Raise local awareness about the work of the prison

All Weather Sports Pitch Appeal

Our most ambitious project to date, we are working to raise £500k to build an all-weather sports pitch in HMP Erlestoke.

Over £80k had been pledged or donated so far. Please watch this space for regular updates on our progress!

Such a facility would not only provide real benefit to the prisoners, but also to staff, especially in the building of relationships. It would provide access to a broad range of sports activities, including Football, Volleyball, Softball, Badminton, Basketball, Circuit Training, Outdoor bowls and Tennis. In addition, there would be opportunities to develop sport/lifestyle qualifications in mental health First Aid, general health and well being.

For prisoners' families

We run a transport service on visit days, from Devizes bus stops and/or Westbury train station to HMP Erlestoke. To access this service please contact Carol on 07721 932430 with the date and time the lift is required, the number of persons and where you would like to be picked up. Or you can book via email:

We will then let you know if we have a driver available. Drivers are volunteers and will have envelopes in their vehicle for a voluntary donation towards your journey.

If you have a concern about an offender following your visit, please call the prison on the 'Safer Custody' phone number: 01380 814373

For all visitors

We are pleased to announce that the portacabin outside the main gate of the prison is now available for use by visitors on visit days. There is a toilet in the portacabin and visitors will now have access to somewhere dry and warm whilst waiting for access into the prison.
